Abstract
Scientific jihad is a determination to direct the path of knowledge and to well educate in order to obtain divine satisfaction and to uphold divine values and double effort by enduring difficulties to discover the unknowns and scientific truths. One way to achieve the goals of scientific jihad is to know the obstacles, challenges and effective impediments which prevent the progress of scientific jihad and then confronting and removing them, which have been studied and explained in religious teachings.
This research has analysed and examined these individual and social challenges and obstacles with descriptive-analytical method using verses and hadiths. Individual challenges can be viewed as unjustified bias in not accepting scientific and reasonable opinions and ideas, prejudging without thinking, scientific pride, individualism, wasting time or being preoccupied with entertainment and trivial matters, procrastination in performing work, and despair after loss and failure. Social challenges can also be viewed as social problems in the context of scientific jihad and self-alienation. Recognizing these challenges and removing obstacles can be an effective step towards the progress, authority and excellence of Islamic societies in achieving scientific self-sufficiency.
