Abstract
Elucidating the model of faithful social life and the mechanisms for realizing collective life is rooted in revealed teachings. Despite the extensive presentation of the components of an ideal society in the Holy Qur’an and the Ṣaḥīfah al-Sajjādiyya, the relationship between these two sources in elucidating the social characteristics of a desirable society still requires systematic and comparative analysis. Accordingly, the present study seeks to answer the following questions: What are the social characteristics of a desirable society from the perspective of the Holy Qur’an and the Ṣaḥīfah al-Sajjādiyya? How does the Ṣaḥīfah al-Sajjādiyya translate Qur’anic social concepts from the level of overarching norms into the realm of moral education and social action? The research data, drawn from the verses of the Holy Qur’an and the social passages of the Ṣaḥīfah al-Sajjādiyya, were examined using a descriptive-analytical method. The relevant semantic units pertaining to the research problem were then extracted and organized through conceptual categorization. Finally, to elucidate the relationship between the two texts, the resulting categories were analyzed using a comparative approach at both the conceptual and functional levels. The findings demonstrate that the Holy Qur’an establishes the overarching framework of a desirable society on the foundations of monotheism, justice, human dignity, responsibility, social solidarity, and mutual commitment, while the Ṣaḥīfah al-Sajjādiyya transforms these principles, through educational and supplicatory language, into a mechanism for internalizing and reproducing social ethics. Accordingly, components such as social cooperation, consultation, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong, concern for meeting the needs of others, fulfillment of covenants, and preservation of social unity are not only characteristics of a desirable society but also elements of an educational model for realizing an Islamic society. The conclusion is that the relationship between the Qur’an and the Ṣaḥīfah in the domain of society-building is one of “establishing norms” and “educating for the realization of norms.”
